Kerbed Alloy Wheel Repairs

Smart Auto Repairs understands how it feels after hearing an expensive alloy wheel scrape against a kerb. But don’t despair; we also know how to restore your rims to their original condition.

Even better, one of our skilled technicians will travel to your home or business premises to fix the damage.

Our mobile alloy wheel refurbishment service, including wheel repairs and polishing, is available to car owners across the north west of England, Flintshire, and as far south as London.

What does it mean to have ‘kerbed’ an alloy wheel?

Scuffs and scrapes are a common sight, and most of us have misjudged a kerb or failed to avoid a deep pothole at some point while driving.

Parallel parking is the biggest cause of a kerbed alloy, although potholes can also leave wheels with a chip or, worse, becoming buckled.

Is it worth having a damaged alloy repaired?

In short, yes, it is.

It is estimated that resale value of a car can be affected by up to £150 per kerbed rim, meaning a complete set of damaged alloys could see your vehicle sell for £600 less on the used market.

Our repairs start at £45 per wheel, so having each one repaired – if all four have sustained damage – could end up making you money when you come to sell your motor. It is also a cheaper alternative, potentially saving you hundreds, if not thousands of pounds, compared to buying a new set.

What we need from you

Smart Auto Repairs can fix kerb damage to most types of alloy wheel, including diamond cut and split rims. However, we don’t repair chrome alloys. If you are unsure what type are on your car, then check with the manufacturer or send to us a picture attached to an email.

To complete a job, we need is a location, access to electricity and a space to park our van. Set aside around an hour for each wheel that needs treatment.

We always recommend you send to us an image of the full face and lips of affected alloys. This allows us to see the extent of the damage as well as assisting to provide a precise estimate of costs.

What finishes do you offer?

Original alloys from a manufacturer are supplied in three standard types of silver, as well as anthracite and black. We can match any colour to most wheels. We define the silvers according to the metallic element of a paint as follows:

Fine: Bright silver with no sparkle

Medium: A colour with some metallic, but is still bright

Coarse: Darker in shade but has plenty of sparkle
