Recently had my BMW 530 very well repaired by Smart Auto repairs. The rear wheel arch (dog leg) was scratched and dented and alloy wheel damaged in three places not just on edge after collision with gatepost. They responded quickly with a quote and came to my home two days later on time. Repair was completed in just over 2 hours and is perfectly fine. Cost approximately 30% of BMW dealership quote, which was great as I have hit the same gatepost twice in 6 months! >I used Smart last time and was happy to use them again… no complaints!

Why diamond cut alloys corrode
To understand what causes diamond cut alloys to corrode – a common problem – it’s important to understand how they are made.
Another at-risk area is around the wheel bolts, particularly if a torque gun is used to remove them. A tell-tale sign of corrosion are light-coloured specks, which can look like a spider’s web, that turn black and begin to flake over time.
A lathe machine cuts the wheel, leaving a shiny finish, before a plastic coating is applied. However, it is brittle, and the seal can be broken at the outer rim of a wheel when tyres are changed. If that happens, water can enter a gap created, leaving small white marks.
How we repair diamond cut alloys
We don’t use a lathe for your diamond cut alloy repair. Instead we have adopted our own method of polishing the wheel that gives a similar finish without you having to replace it or send it away for several days and be with out your vehicle. If you put your face close to the wheel you may see evidence of where the repair has been done. If you stand a foot away and look at the alloy you will not be able to see it. We have been using this repair method for over 16 years, we do a lot of cars that go back to the lease companies and these repairs have passed all lease inspections.
Is there a warranty on Smart Auto’s diamond cut alloy repairs?
No, there isn’t a warranty.
However, we are confident in our methods, and can share advice on how to take care of your wheels from that moment on. If you follow it, you should avoid further problems.
We recommend you don’t use acid-based cleaners after we have completed a repair because it will sometimes leave a blemished effect, although it can be removed with car wax. In the winter, use either Autosol or a high-quality car wax to protect the diamond cut area from salt off the road.
